The NADI VEHICLES RECOVERY & SALVAGE PROGRAM has been established to assist OEMs in the collection of vehicles from Dealerships across Australia, and to manage their destruction.
NADI ADMIN will arrange a recycler to collect the vehicle.
THESE VEHICLES WILL BE MADE AVAILABLE TO THE RECYCLER AT NO COST.
While the OEMs will accept removal of certain parts for resource recovery (such as catalytic converter, battery, mag wheels and the like) they will not however allow removal of parts for commercial sale.
As background, a number of vehicle manufacturers have announced Voluntary Recalls of vehicles that are fitted with a Takata NADI 5-AT airbag. These manufacturers are:
Honda, Toyota, BMW, Mitsubishi, Mazda, Audi, Suzuki and Ford
The NADI airbags are all Driver side airbags. They are fitted to a range of models manufactured between 1996 and 2000 (View makes/models here).
As the vehicles are over 20 years old, and as spare parts are currently not available to replace the NADI airbags, some OEMs have decided to undertake a “buy-back” program.
OEMs will compensate the owner for presenting the airbag to a Dealer for its recovery, and the Dealer will take possession of the vehicle. Then:
1. Either the airbag will be removed by the Dealer, and the vehicle notified to NADI ADMIN to arrange scrappage in such manner that the OEM receives evidence of its destruction (through a Certificate of Destruction); or
2. The airbag will remain in the vehicle and the OEM will require evidence that both the vehicle and the airbag in it have been destroyed (through a Certificate of Destruction).
